To complete your submission, each team or individual must submit the following on Devpost before the deadline:
Required-
A working project created during the hackathon.
-
A public GitHub repository containing your source code.
-
A project description explaining what you built, how it works, and the problem it solves.
-
A demo video (3–5 minutes) showcasing your project and its main features.
-
Clear setup instructions (README) so judges can run your project if necessary.
-
A live deployment or hosted version of your project.
-
Screenshots or images of your project.
-
A list of technologies, frameworks, APIs, or libraries used.
-
Any presentation slides or additional documentation.
-
Your project should be started during the hackathon. Existing libraries, templates, and frameworks are allowed, but the core work must be completed during the event.
-
Projects may be built individually or in teams (within the allowed team size).
-
You must own or have permission to use all assets included in your submission.
-
AI tools may be used unless a specific prize category states otherwise. Please disclose any significant AI assistance in your project description.
-
Incomplete, non-functional, or plagiarized submissions may be disqualified.
Most importantly, don't worry if your project isn't perfect. First Commit is about learning, building, and taking the next step in your development journey.
Requirements
To be eligible for judging, your project must meet the following requirements.
What You Can BuildYou're free to build web applications, mobile apps, desktop applications, games, hardware projects, AI-powered tools, or any other software-related project. There is no required theme—build something you're passionate about.
AI UsageAI tools are allowed and encouraged as learning aids. Use them to help you learn, brainstorm, debug, or improve your project—but they should support your work, not replace it. Judges will value your understanding, creativity, and problem-solving more than AI-generated code.
What to SubmitYour Devpost submission must include:
-

-
What you built

At First Commit, we believe learning is more important than perfection. Projects will primarily be judged on:
-
Learning & Growth – What did you learn? How much did you challenge yourself?
-
Creativity – Is your idea original or does it solve a problem in an interesting way?
-
Execution – Does your project work as intended?
-
Technical Understanding – Can you clearly explain how your project works and the decisions you made?
-
Presentation – How effectively do you communicate your project and your journey?
You do not need years of experience to win. Whether this is your first project or your first hackathon, what matters most is your willingness to learn, build, and share your journey.
